Mastic Scum is a metal band from Vienna, originally from Salzburg. It was founded in 1992. The majority of the band members lives in Vienna, the current singer Markus 'Maggo' Wenzel lives in Innsbruck.

Mastic Scum was founded in 1992 as a death metal band with hardcore punk influences in Salzburg and released a demo in the same year. The line-up consisted of the brothers Harry (guitar) and Man Gandler (drums), the singer Will and bassist Christian 'Linga' Moser. In 1993, the band signed with German label Rødel Records, which released the 12 '' EP Ephemeral Cerebral Butchery (1993) and the 7 '' EP Tilt (1996). As bassist Steff Moser replaced his brother Christian. With their 1994 demo, the group started to tend towards Grindcore. About the D.I.Y scene was a live tape, as well as several split releases (including Haemorrhage) released on various independent labels that made the band internationally known. Man Gandler worked as a session drummer for the band Belphegor, for which he drummed Blutsabbath (1997) and Necrodaemon Terrorsathan (2000).

In 1999, the debut album Zero was released on the German label Noise V. The band also plays at the Fuck the Commerce Festival. Meanwhile, added to the Grindcore style various crossover elements. After a European tour through Germany and the Netherlands, the band signed a record deal with Cudgel Agency (organizers of the Fuck-the-Commerce and Party.San Festival) and released the album Scar. In 2003, the group will play in the opening act of Master and Lividity. As bassist Alex was added. With the 2005 album Mind, Mastic Scum becomes a Death Metal band.

In 2007, for the 15th anniversary, the compilation The EP's Collection 1993-2002 appeared on the label Twilight Distribution. In 2008 the line-up will be changed. With Boris 'Bobby B. Bastard' Balogh (bass) and Markus 'Maggo' Wenzel (singer) the line-up is changed. The 2009 album Dust (Twilight distribution) starts with the predecessor and offers technical Death Metal, which contains only a few Grindcore bonds. This is followed by a European tour with Vader and Marduk. Thereafter, Boris Balogh will be replaced by Alex Schmid (also with the Viennese Death Metal band Days of Loss).

In 2010, Mastic Scum was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the category Hard & Heavy, but had to give up Kontrust.
